A Different Kind of Airport

Singapore Changi Airport has held the Skytrax World's Best Airport title more times than any other airport in history, and the reasons are structural rather than cosmetic. Changi is not simply an airport that looks impressive — it is an airport engineered around the actual experience of traveling through it, from the moment of arrival to the moment of boarding.

The Jewel

Opened in 2019, the Jewel Changi Airport is a glass-and-steel dome connecting Terminals 1, 2, and 3. At its center is the Rain Vortex — the world's largest indoor waterfall, a 40-meter column of water that descends from an oculus in the roof. The Jewel contains over 280 shops and restaurants, a canopy park with indoor walking trails, and a transit hotel. For passengers with connections of four hours or more, the Jewel functions as a genuine destination rather than a waiting area.

Terminal by Terminal

Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are the older facilities, both of which have undergone significant renovation in the past decade. Terminal 3 is widely considered the most architecturally refined, with its butterfly garden on the departure level and a rooftop swimming pool at the transit hotel. Terminal 4, which handles budget carriers and select full-service airlines, operates with near-complete biometric processing — from check-in through immigration to boarding — with minimal human interaction required.

Free Amenities and Transit Tours

Changi offers a genuinely unusual range of complimentary amenities for transit passengers: free city tours of Singapore for passengers with layovers of five and a half hours or more, free movies in the in-terminal theatres, a free swimming pool with towels provided, and free massage chairs distributed across all terminals. These are not promotional offerings — they have been standard fixtures of the airport for years.

For Premium Travelers

Singapore Airlines operates its SilverKris Lounge at all Changi terminals for eligible business and first class passengers. The First Class SilverKris Lounge at Terminal 3 is consistently rated among the top airline lounges in the world, offering à la carte dining, a full bar, private rest areas, and shower suites. The connection between gate and lounge at Changi is also notably short by major hub standards.
